Navigating Ealing’s Leafy Avenues

Map highlighting the service coverage area for London Tree Surgeons across Ealing

Ealing is a borough of contrasts, reflected in the tree types, property layouts and logistical nuances of each postcode. The W5 postcode covers the heart of Ealing Broadway, Ealing Common, and the leafy Brentham Garden Suburb, where mature oaks, limes and London planes tower over Victorian and Edwardian properties. Whereas W13 stretches across West Ealing and Northfields, with denser terraced streets and tighter rear-garden access points. Luckily, our crews have a wealth of experience manoeuvring trucks and chippers down narrow side returns and shared driveways, and we’re very well versed with coordinating parking suspensions with Ealing Council before a job begins. As an established tree surgeon in London, our fleet is fully ULEZ-compliant, so working in and around the Ealing Common low-traffic zones never adds hidden charges to your invoice.

Ealing Council TPOs & Tree Regulations

Ealing Council enforces tree regulations strictly, and a large slice of the borough lies within one of its many Conservation Areas, including Brentham Garden Suburb, Ealing Green, Pitshanger Village and Walpole. If your tree sits within a Conservation Area or is covered by a TPO (Tree Preservation Order), you need formal consent before any cutting takes place. TPO applications usually take up to eight weeks, while Conservation Area trees require a six-week prior notification. We can handle filling out all the paperwork and obtaining permission on your behalf, so you avoid the bureaucratic headache and the hefty fines that follow unauthorised works.

Tree Surgery Services We Provide in Ealing

Precision Tree Pruning

Most of the enquiries we receive from W5 and W13 are for our professional crown reduction service. We perform all pruning work in accordance with BS3998:2010, helping to ensure your trees’ health and natural beauty. Our NPTC-qualified pruning team follow the exact job specifications outlined in your quotation.

Street Tree Pollarding

Pollarding is a long-term tree management technique, and not a one-off chop. We handle the regular re-pollarding of limes, planes and willows across Ealing’s streets, maintaining historic frameworks without compromising tree health. Book a tree pollarding visit every three to five years to keep growth in check.

Safe Tree Felling & Removal

When a tree is dangerous, dead or has outgrown its environment, we perform precision sectional tree felling using industry-approved techniques and rigging systems. Our comprehensive tree removal service includes full waste clearance, and we promise to leave your property clear, safe and tidy.

Hedge Trimming & Reduction

Whether it is a tall Leylandii boundary in Hanwell or a clipped beech hedge in Pitshanger, our crews shape, reduce and reshape with battery-powered tools to minimise noise. We provide routine hedge maintenance packages to keep boundaries sharp and prevents legal disputes with neighbours.

Narrow-Access Stump Grinding

After a removal, a stump is rarely something you want to live with. Our narrow-access grinders fit through standard 760mm side gates common across W13’s terraced streets, taking the stump down to 200-300mm below ground level. Choose a full stump grinding service to reclaim space for replanting, decking or a new lawn.

Reliable Tree Planting

We help Ealing residents select the right cultivar for their soil, aspect and overhead space, sourcing semi-mature stock from reputable UK nurseries. Our expert tree planting service can include staking, irrigation bags and a 12-month establishment checks.

Arboricultural Surveys & Reports

Buying or extending a property in Ealing often triggers a request for a mortgage tree report or BS5837 survey. Our consulting arborists produce quality tree surveys and reports that will satisfy mortgage lenders and Ealing Council’s planning department the first time round.

24/7 Emergency Tree Surgery

Tree emergencies rarely wait for office hours. With 11 full teams and our own out-of-hours dispatcher, we attend dangerous fallen limbs and uprooted trees across the borough through the night. Call our 24/7 emergency tree surgery line, and a crew will aim to be on site within 90 minutes of your call.

Common Tree Pests & Diseases in Ealing

Oak Processionary Moth (Thaumetopoea processionea)

West London sits at the epicentre of the OPM outbreak in the UK, and Ealing is firmly inside the Established Zone. The caterpillars strip oak foliage and shed irritating hairs that pose a serious health risk to people, pets and livestock. We carry out spring inspections and use vacuum extraction in PPE for safe nest removal.

Ash Dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus)

A significant proportion of Ealing’s ash trees have now been infected by ash dieback. Brittle, dehydrated wood caused by ash dieback makes infected ash trees exceptionally dangerous to climb, so we often use safer mechanical solutions such as MEWPs or truck-mounted grapple saws.

Massaria Disease of Plane (Splanchnonema platani)

London planes line many of the streets around Ealing Common and Walpole Park, and Massaria causes sudden upper-crown branch failure with little visible warning from the ground. Aerial inspection from a climbing rope is the only reliable diagnostic method, especially during dry summers.

Precision Sectional Dismantle in Ealing

A certified London Tree Surgeons arborist suspended by ropes performing a sectional oak tree felling project in Ealing.

Earlier this year, a homeowner in W5 contacted us about an oak tree which was looking particularly unhealthy. We sent one of our level 4 arborists to assess the tree, and it quickly became apparent that the tree was suffering from Acute Oak Decline (AOD). The oak tree’s crown was dying back, and the tree had started bleeding dark fluid from cracks in the bark, both common symptoms of AOD. While located in the owner’s garden, the tree also sat next to a fairly busy road. With this in mind, it was decided to remove the tree for safety reasons. Because the oak fell within a Conservation Area, we had to obtain permission before any work began, and the whole process was handled by our skilled admin team. On the day of the tree removal, the team positioned the truck and chipper on the roadside using Chapter 8 traffic management. The climber and ground crew then used ropes and rigging techniques to carefully dismantle the tree into manageable sections. The project ran smoothly and was made relatively easy due to being able to position the truck and chipper so close to the tree, which prevented the guys from having to drag the tree down a side alley. Once the tree had been felled, we sent another team back the next day to grind the stump, and the project was complete.

What Local Residents Say

“I’d 100% recommend LTS. We had 3 old tree stumps removed from our back garden, and the guys had them out in no time at all. They left everything tidy and even cleared some old branches from our garden for free.”
— Catherine in Ealing W5

Ealing Tree Surgery FAQs

Do I need permission from Ealing Council to prune my tree?

If your tree has a stem diameter of 75mm or more at 1.5m height and sits within a Conservation Area, or if it is covered by a TPO, you must apply to Ealing Council before any pruning, reduction or removal. Full guidance and the application portal are published by Ealing Council, and we are happy to submit the application on your behalf.

How quickly can you attend a storm-damaged tree in W5 or W13?

With 11 teams across the capital and a depot within easy reach of the A40, we typically arrive at emergency callouts in Ealing within 60 to 90 minutes during working hours and well under two hours overnight. Bring the tree to a safe state first, then schedule the make-safe works during daylight whenever possible.

Will you take all the waste away after the job?

Yes. We never charge for waste removal as standard, and all timber, brash and chippings are 100% recycled, most goes to local biomass facilities, with cordwood passed to community wood-fuel schemes around West London. The site is left swept and tidy before our crew leaves.
