Meet The Team
London Tree Surgeons are a team of qualified tree surgeons, arborists, tree surveyors, and organised coordinators dedicated to keeping London trees safe and healthy.
More Than Just “A Man With A Van And Chainsaw”
When you hire London Tree Surgeons, you aren’t just getting a bloke with a chainsaw; you are getting the backing of one of the capital’s most established arboricultural teams. Over the last 15+ years, we have grown from a small outfit into a robust company with 11 operational teams and a dedicated office support crew. But despite our size, we have never lost that local, personal touch.
We know that letting tradespeople into your home or onto your commercial site requires trust. That’s why we don’t just hire anyone. We look for people who take pride in their work, who know their trees, and who are actually pleasant to have around. From the friendly voice that answers the phone to the lead climber who shapes your oak tree, everyone here is committed to doing the job properly, safely, and with a smile.
The Voices On The Phone
Well away from the buzzing of chainsaws and wood chippers, our highly professional office team is hard at work to ensure everything runs smoothly. They handle logistics, council permissions, project scheduling, and everything in between. We all know how frustrating it is when tradespeople don’t answer the phone or reply to emails, but with our dedicated admin team and experienced managers, that doesn’t happen with London Tree Surgeons.
Our administrative team, led by our operations managers, are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to offer assistance however they can. They navigate the complex world of London’s tree preservation orders (TPOs) and conservation area applications so you don’t have to. They also coordinate our 11 teams of arborists, tree surgeons, and surveyors across the capital, ensuring the right crew reaches the correct postcode at the right time.
If you have a question about your quote or need to reschedule due to a family emergency, these are the helpful people you’ll be speaking with.
Our Climbing Arborists And Ground Crew
At London Tree Surgeons, we employ over 30 London arborists and tree surgeons, split into 11 specialised teams. Every single arborist and tree surgeon is NPTC-qualified for the tasks they perform, but more importantly, they are trained, competent and take pride in their work. We have a strict “No Ticket, No Cut, No Operate, No Perform” policy, meaning we never let staff undertake tasks for which they’re not ticketed/qualified.
“Tickets” in tree surgery refer to professional qualifications or certifications that demonstrate a worker’s competence in specific tasks. For example, you can get tickets for chainsaw maintenance and cross-cutting, felling small trees, climbing trees, using a chainsaw from a rope and a harness, performing aerial rescue, using wood chippers, and providing emergency first aid at work.
Our lead climbers/arborists have years of experience navigating London’s tightest spaces and dismantling trees over fences, roofs, and infrastructure. Supporting them are our skilled tree surgeons/ground crew, who manage the rigging ropes and extract the timber. We invest heavily in staff training to provide safe and efficient tree surgery in London City and throughout Greater London.
Certified Arboricultural Consultants And Tree Surveyors
Sometimes you need professional arboriculture advice, not a chainsaw. That is where our London-based arboricultural consultants and tree surveyors come in. Our consultants and surveyors are fully certified and experienced in tree biology, surveying, and planning law, enabling them to bridge the gap between tree preservation and development.
If you are a developer needing a BS5837 survey for planning permission, or a homeowner worried about a tree affecting your mortgage, these are the certified tree professionals you’ll be working with. They hold high-level qualifications in arboriculture and have an exceptional understanding of how trees interact with the built environment. Most importantly, they provide the impartial, expert evidence that councils and insurance companies require.
Why We Love What We Do
Being a tree surgeon in London is tough. It involves heavy lifting, working in the rain, and managing high risks. So, why do we do it? The reason is that we genuinely care about London’s trees. There is also a real sense of camaraderie at London Tree Surgeons. We look out for each other, and that culture of safety and respect extends to our clients as well.
London Tree Surgeons are proud to be a London Living Wage employer and to offer real career progression for all of our staff. Many of our tree surveyors and lead climbers started with us as apprentices, dragging branches, and have worked their way up through their qualifications. This retention means you get experienced, happy staff working on your property, not a revolving door of workers who don’t care about the result.
Frequently Asked Questions About The London Tree Surgeons Team
Are your staff fully vetted?
Absolutely. We know that trust is everything. All our staff undergo background and reference checks before joining the London Tree Surgeons team. Because we work in schools and for local authorities, we can ensure our teams are suitable for working in sensitive environments. If you require workers with up-to-date DBS checks, please notify us at the quotation stage so we can provide the necessary certificates. With London Tree Surgeons, you can always trust who we send to your property.
Do your teams speak English?
Yes, every London Tree Surgeons employee understands and speaks English at a high level. Communication is a huge part of safety and customer service. Our teams need to understand your instructions and communicate clearly with each other to ensure the site remains safe. You will always be able to discuss the work with the team leader and any member of staff.
Are your arborists and tree surgeons qualified?
We don’t let anyone perform any task unless they are qualified. Every team member holds the relevant NPTC qualifications for the work they do, whether that’s chainsaw use, climbing, or using the wood chipper. For more information about our staff’s qualifications, visit our tree surgeon qualifications page. We are happy to provide proof of competence upon request.
